I am so far behind. I really had good intentions to post weekly, but that obviously is not working. I am now going to play catch up and post pictures fir the last few weeks. I think I will then post as things happen.

Here is a look at kindergarten. We made school buses cutting squares and rectangles. We made scarecrows. This time we tore our paper instead of cutting. Our latest project was Five Little Pumpkins sitting on a gate.

Now things are really starting to get interesting.  We are so busy in art class.  Students are busy finishing up projects and starting new projects. The art work keeps coming in.  I love sharing my students' art work, and I am very proud of their accomplishments.

Kindergarten students had "apple week" in their regular classroom, and they did a lot of different activities and lessons about apples.  We created our own apples.  We cut apples from paper plates, drew on some seeds, cut out a leave and a stem, and then painted the apple with a sponge.

First Grade:  I wanted to share some more circle in a circle projects.

We also made apple mobiles in first grade. These were very tricky as we had to cut two of each apple in order to get the yarn to go through the center of the apples.

Second grade students missed art this week as they were on a field trip.  Photos are still on their way to show off their shining starts.

Third Grade students started a new project involving a fish with organic shaped scales.  In the mean time, here are some more hand print patterns:

Here are some more fourth grade hand print patterns:

We have been so busy in art, and I am behind in posting.  Here is a look at the last week:

Kindergarten students have been practicing making shapes.  We cut squared out of primary color construction paper and glued them onto the first letter of our names.

First Grade Students completed drawing a circle in a circle.  Second grade students finished their starts and then painted over it with watercolor.  We learned about watercolor resist.

First Grade

Third and Fourth Grade students traced their hands and added different patterns to every space.
Grade 3

Fifth and Sixth grade students completed their spinning wheel projects by painting a watercolor wash.  They were then having a bad hair day. They drew faces and added crazy hair using different patterns.

Seventh and Eighth Grade students completed their puzzle projects and have started a Mask Collage. They each chosen a famous person and are completing a mask by tearing and gluing paper over the picture.

I can't believe I am already in the second week of school.  It has been great to get back to school and meet all of my new and returning students. We have endured the heat and have been working on projects. Photos will follow soon.  Please be patient as our art work is under construction.

Kindergarten Students:  We know our shapes.  We took yarn and made different shapes.  Students were able to make shapes on their own and with their table partners.  We made circles, triangles, squares, rectangles, and ovals.  Kindergartens were able to draw circles and created caterpillars.
First and Second Grade Students:  We are tracing a shape and then carefully drawing the shape inside the shape until the entire shape is filled.  First graders traced circles.  They are creating patterns and using contrasting colors.  Second graders cut out a star and then traced the star.  All students are creating patterns and overlapping shapes.

Third and Fourth Grade Students:  We are creating patterns using the outline of our hands.  Students traced their hands and overlapped them. Each space is filled with a different pattern.

Fifth and Sixth Grade Students:  Students are creating spinning wheels using patterns of lines.  We are experimenting with crayons and oil pastels.  Once the spinning wheels are complete, we will had a water color wash.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Students:  Students are working in small groups to create big puzzles.  We are working together to create puzzle pieces showing different patterns and then putting them together to create a big puzzle.

I am looking forward to another creative year.  Here are pictures of third grade students on the last day of school.  I hope I recognize them next week.

Art Quote of the Week:

First Grade Student:  "Do you like being an art teacher?"

Mrs. K: "I love being a teacher, and being an art teacher is the best.  I get to do art all day long with a lot of different kids"

First Grade Student:  "That is awesome.  I love art"

Thus, the quote of the week:

                  "I love art!"
                              First Grade Student

Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.
